If absences are rare. If, by the nature of the operation, unexpected absences barely happen, the most painful part of coordination — covering at the last minute — isn't an issue, and the spreadsheet holds longer.

If you already have a system that covers it. Some companies already use staff-management or attendance software that can be extended to coordination. In that case it's better to make good use of and configure what you already have before adding something new.
